British studio Monumental has announced that they have been forced to make some redundancies.

The developer was hit by the surprise cancellation of an unannounced project that mean that they had no option but to let some staff go.

A statement made to Develop Online said: "Due to an unexpected project cancellation Monumental has been forced to restructure its business which has resulted in a number of job losses. The company is saddened by the cuts and will provide the necessary support to those affected through the change."

Monumental CEO Rik Alexander added: "Monumental will continue to develop and support Prime its World leading Engine and to develop games in the social gaming space as well as other more traditional work for hire projects."
