Pachter: No premium Call of Duty multiplayer until 2011 at least
Pachter changes his tune
Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has been playing down the possibility of premium multiplayer services for Call of Duty appearing this year.
Pachter has been predicting the arrival of paid multiplayer for Call of Duty repeatedly over the course of this year and Activision boss Bobby Kotick has expressed a desire to monetize the multiplayer elements of the popular shooter series somehow.
He said: "We are removing Activision from the list as we believe that the introduction of online subscription services for Call of Duty will take several more months to materialise. We expect Activision to announce plans to monetize multiplayer online some time in 2011, and expect greater visibility into the release schedule throughout the year."
This runs contrary to what Pachter said last month: "We expect the company to announce plans to monetize online multiplayer content in Black Ops, StarCraft II and other games before year-end. I truly think the biggest surprise [this holiday] will be the launch of a premium service offering multiplayer online gaming. The publishers all are looking at this, and I think one of them will be bold enough to announce such a service by year-end. I'll be surprised if the price is low, and equally surprised if gamers accept it without complaint."
Thanks MCV.
