Nintendo has been teasing some tidbits of information about how will be appearing on the 3DS.

Mario's creator told investors in their most recent quarterly financial Q and A session that the iconic plumber will make both 2D and appearances on their groundbreaking new handheld.

He explained that while the polygon-based 3D games ranging from Super Mario 64 all the way up to this year's Super Mario Galaxy 2 have been popular and critcally successful the jump from 2D to 3D platforming "narrowed the audience" adding that the New Super Mario Bros games have been more popular than their 3D counterparts.

As a result the will see both styles of Mario games. Miyamoto-san added: "When asked 'what will we do on 3DS,' the answer is, of course, we'll make both. They both have their own appeal."
