IBM to continue to power the console market
Cell could power Wii 2...
IBM has its processors powering the Xbox 360 and the Wii and co-developed the Cell processor that is at the heart of the PS3 and they plan to continue into the next generation.
The electronics giant has taken over sole responsibility for producing the Cell chip and will integrate it into future generations of their Power chips. They have also stated that they are working with all the games console platform-holders on their next generations of console hardware.
The chief technological officer for IBM's systems and technologies group Jai Menon told PC World recently: "We want to stay in the [console] business, we intend to stay in the business."
He added: "I think you'll see [Cell] integrated into our future Power road map. That's the way to think about it as opposed to a separate line it'll just get integrated into the next line of things that we do. We're working with all of the game folks to provide our capabilities into those next-generation machines."
