With pursuing more of the core gaming market share and recently announcing the release date of its 3DS, it seems the portable market is starting to attract major attention from core studios, such as developer Games.

While Nintendo's handheld boasts advanced specs, Epic vice president Mark Rein said the studio will be passing on the device. He claims the Nintendo isn't powerful enough to run Unreal Engine, which nixes any possibilities for support.

"[The 3DS is] below our [minimum specifications], from what we can tell," Joystiq quotes Rein as saying. "We don't have a 3DS, so there's no way for us to verify that, but everything we've been led to believe is that it's below our min-spec. You couldn't do a game that looks like [Epic Citadel] on it, for example."

On the other hand, the Maryland-based developer is fully supporting Apple's iPhone. Epic announced Project Sword for the device earlier this year.
