While IO Interactive's 2 topped charts, the title wan't received as well by critics who collectively ranked it a 63 out of 100 on MetaCritic.

In defense of the title, IO general manager Niels Jorgensen asserted that some reviewers just "didn't really get it." However, the Danish developer is OK with the lacklustre critical reception - the studio expected it with Kane & Lynch 2's unique design approach.

"I actually like the approach that you take some chances to reach out to an audience," he told GamesIndustry.biz. "It's about choosing an approach to give people entertainment and variety and I think we've been able to produce something that's a bit different, if not to everyone's taste."

With Kane & Lynch 2 out the door, many speculate will begin work on the long-rumored Hitman 5. The last entry in that franchise came in 2006 for the previous generation of consoles.
