Namco: We hurt Ace Combat with iterative sequels
Japanese publisher says this manifested itself in sales numbers.
Namco Bandai has released more than five Ace Combat titles in the last five years, as the series went from a bi-annual development cycle to a 12 month period.
In a recent interview with Famitsu magazine, a Namco Bandai spokesperson admitted the flight combat games have begun to show signs of fatigue due to iterative sequels. The series, once a multi-million seller globally, has since dropped off significantly as a result.
With the latest entry in the series, though, Project Aces hopes to change shift this trend upward. The studio is accomplishing this grounding the story in reality, rather than utilizing scif-fi weaponry as past games have.
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon is currently 40 percent complete and is set to release next year for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
