Rumour: Sony pushing for massive PSP2 launch
With the PlayStation Portable on the decline, recent rumours indicate Sony is preparing to launch the device's successor with a "significant" line-up.
Sources familiar with the matter told Develop-Online that Sony has begun circulating PSP2 development kits to studios - both in-house and third-party - to facilitate a "significant launch window line-up" for the handheld device.
Further, Develop-Online has heard the PSP2 is slated for a 2011 release. This release date puts the portable machine in direct competition with Nintendo's 3DS, which is widely speculated to launch during the same year.
At least one developer has already gone on record about the existence of the PSP2. NetherRealms Studio recently told IndustryGamers that it had dev kits in-house, and described the hardware as being powerful.
