Mercury boss Dave Cox is insistent that Kojima's contributions to the title have only made it better with the creator trusting the Spanish-based developer to do right by the Castlevania name.

Mercury Steam's Dave Cox explained to Develop Online: "Kojima stated that we needed to create a more rounded character from which the story can emerge and for the player to empathise with. But, and this is to his credit, Kojima has also trusted our vision and left us to it."

He added: "He has always liked what we were doing, how we intended to do it, and our methods. It has been a brilliant relationship and who would turn down advice from such a respected guy?"
