Modern day Prince of Persia game canned by Ubisoft
It was wicked apparently - perhaps too wicked
Former Ubisoft developer Jonathan Jacques-Belletete has revealed that, while he was with the French developer they explored producing a Prince of Persia title set in the modern day.
Jacques-Belletete, who is now working on Deus Ex: Human Revolution at Eidos Montreal said that the game was born out of early concepts for an aborted version of Assassin's Creed that was being developed on the original Xbox and PS2 before the series was upgraded to the current generation.
He began: : "After [the Assassins' Creed cancellation, Ubisoft] wanted a spin off for Prince of Persia. We had some awesome ideas with that too... in contemporary time."
"That one had already started at that point... Prince of Persia Zero," he continued, referencing the 2008 title. "But they wanted really something completely out of the left field. And back then I was known as one of the ones... 'oh this guy can get some pretty cool, weird ideas'. So I had this little team, and [our PoP] was actually in the contemporary world. Think a bit Day After Tomorrow, but replace the snow with sand and everything. It was really wicked. But it got cancelled, and then we did all the Far Crys."
Thanks CVG.
