Pachter doubts that Nintendo will reduce Wii price in 2010
Despite lagging sales, the analyst doubts Nintendo will cut the price of the console
With the Xbox 360 positioned to overtake the Wii in the U.S., and the PlayStation 3 recently claiming top spot in Japan for annual sales, Nintendo's home console seems to be struggling at retail.
Despite stagnating at retail, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter doesn't believe the Kyoto-based hardware company has the resolve to reduce the Wii's price for the upcoming 2010 holiday season.
"I don't think that Nintendo has the resolve to cut the price of the Wii heading into the holidays. Recent sales levels have been weak by Nintendo standards, with monthly Wii unit sales averaging just over 300,000 per month in the United States," he told IndustryGamers. "With all that said, I think we'll see Nintendo maintain price until early next year."
Nintendo will face further competition this holiday season as Sony and Microsoft launch their own motion controller peripherals.
