Microsoft: Who needs Blu-Ray?
McGill hits out at Sony's disc format
Microsoft's Stephen McGill has made an open attack on Sony's support of the Blu-Ray format.
McGill said that with the Xbox's support for HD video streaming at up to 1080p they made a smart decision to cut costs by not fitting the 360 with a Blu-Ray drive.
He said: "I think people may have spoken about that originally, but that's long gone. I think people now recognise what a smart decision it was to keep the pricing low. Actually Blu-ray is going to be passed by as a format. People have moved through from DVDs to digital downloads and digital streaming, so we offer full HD 1080p Blu-ray quality streaming instantly, no download, no delay."
He added casually: "So, who needs Blu-ray?"Thanks MCV.
