Mobile firm Nokia and Japanese developer-publisher Sega will be bringing out the world's first massively multiplayer mobile game later this year, it was revealed today. Pocket Kingdom: Own The World promises to challenge players to develop massive empires in their persistent world, competing with other players, also competing in the game-world simultaneously.
"As the first worldwide massively multiplayer online mobile game, Pocket Kingdom: Own The World showcases the power of both the N-Gage platform and the N-Gage Arena," commented Gerard Wiener, director of network game solutions at Nokia. "The N-Gage Arena allows thousands of gamers around the world to connect for global mobile online battles, creating dynamic and unscripted gaming experiences. Gamers will relish the challenge."
The game, due for a release in the third-quarter of this year, promises 400 'castle configurations', 100 collectable units (which in turn can be equipped with 50,000 items), not to mention player-on-player action, the use of armies to explore, gather and conquer, bosses to be battled guarding new areas of the world and finally the ability to raise money via auctions.
"Pocket Kingdom: Own The World defies preconceived notions about mobile gaming and creates an entirely new genre: global massively-multiplayer online mobile games," gushed Nokia publishing head Pasi Pölönen. "The N-Gage platform, in part because of its unique mobile connected features, helps game developers unleash their creativity and build games for a truly global market."
