Dissidia: Final Fantasy sequel set for 2011
The first Dissidia won't be the final one
Dissidia: Final Fantasy, the PSP-exclusive title that pitted some of Square Enix's most popular characters against each other, proved to be a hit among both critics and fans. Now, Square is developing a sequel slated for release in Japan next year.
Called Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy (say that five times fast!), the title was revealed in this week's Shonen Jump - a popular Japanese gaming magazine. AndriaSang.com reports that central protagonists Lightning and Kain, from Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy IV, respectively, are two new additions to the first game's comprehensive roster.
Tetsuya Nomura, lead character designer at Square Enix, had previously said there would be a playable secret game at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show - it's likely that he was referring to Dissidia Duodecim.
The original Dissidia: Final Fantasy sold more than 1 million copies worldwide, establishing it as one of the more successful PSP titles.
