Dead Rising: Case Zero, the 360-exclusive downloadable prequel to Capcom's upcoming 2, was purchased by more than 300,000 franchise enthusiasts, indicating anticipation is high for the full game.

The - dubbed a pay-quel by many - cost players $5 and introduced gamers to Dead Rising 2's new protagonist Chuck Greene. GamerBytes estimates the downloadable experiment netted more than $1.1 million in profits off the first week alone.

As the site notes, with many publishers pushing the price of downloadable content up, it may be wise for studios to consider marking their and games lower to reach a broader audience. Capcom's experiment shows that good downloadable content can help boost anticipation for full games.

Dead Rising 2 is currently slated to launch on the PlayStation 3, and in September.
