While has handled the global economic considerably well, the French publisher is still cautious when it comes to new intellectual properties, prefering to rely more on its flagship franchises.

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Alain Corre said Ubisoft may not introduce a new major IP until the next console cycle, instead focusing on established brands. "To a certain extent it becomes less risky to invest more in a single game or franchise than spreading your investment between three or four games," he explained.

"If those three or four games are not at the right quality level, you are sure to lose money. So the business model has changed and we're changing our way of making hardcore games," he added.

Despite being higher risks, Ubisoft is still taking calculated chances with some new IPs. Last fall, the company launched Just Dance, which went on to sell millions, while it's also set to debut R.U.S.E. later this month.
