Valve making gaming better through science
They will mess with your mind, man...
Valve's has given an out line of the latest research that they are carrying out to improve the way they make games.
The Half-Life and Steam studio is moving in to biometric research to see how their playtesters are responding to their games.
The phenomenally successful Seattle developer has already invested in gaze-tracking research and now they are expanding that to include recording pulse rates and galvanic skin response (variances in the natural electrical charge held by you skin).
Gabe Newell the boss over at Valve told PC Gamer: "So when you look at our games, more and more we have this representation of player state, where we think we know how you feel, essentially."
He added:"With biometrics, rather than guessing, we can actually use a variety of things like gaze tracking, skin galvanic response, pulse rate and so on. Through combining those pieces of information, we can get a much more accurate indication of player state, so that's something we're super interested in."
Thanks CVG.
