Pachter predicts Xbox Live Platinum service
Analyst reckons this is a money-spinner
The games industry opinion-machine that is Michael Pachter has predicted that Microsoft will introduce another tier to their Xbox Live subscription services.
Pachter has suggested that Microsoft will launch a Platinum service on Xbox Live which will cost around 100 USD per year.
Elaborating on the newly announced hikes in Xbox Live Gold subscription prices Pachter said: "The extra $10 translates to around $100 - 150 million per year in additional revenue for Microsoft. I think that they will reinvest at least this much in developing other new applications, and will roll out a premium service with $100 - 200 million worth of enhancements."
He continued: "If they can get 2 million users to switch from the $60 plan to the $100 plan, they'll make an extra $80 million a year, and can keep investing to try to grow that business."
The Wedbush Morgan analyst speculated that any premium service might add exclusive game items, support for iTunes and even cable TV services.
