While it won't blow over blockbusters like or Final Fantasy, sold well above expectations--particularly in the US, where was surprised by its success.

Joystiq spoke with Quantic Dreams CEO who relayed Sony's surprise at the game's solid sales, specifically mentioning the US.

Heavy Rain sold "four times as many copies" as projected by Sony. With research firm Group claiming that 400,000 copies have been sold to date, that puts Sony's estimate at a mere 100,000 copies.

To date worldwide, Heavy Rain has sold a respectable 1.5 million copies. Cage predicted that 2 million copies will have been sold by its first year anniversary in February 2011.
