Nintendo to boost digital downloads
3DS the key
Admitting inferiority in the digital downloadable games market, Nintendo is pledging to make improvements with the launch of its new handheld in 2011.
CEO Satoru Iwata promises to improve the company's efforts in the digital download space, claiming Nintendo 3DS will be the catalyst for a new push.
Siliconera highlights comments made by the executive in response to an investor. "We are thinking the release of new hardware should be good timing for a dramatic improvement of this situation."
Nintendo has a lot of work ahead if it plans to compete with portable downloads. Apple dominates the digital download space with iPhone and iPod touch, while Sony fills out the market with PSP.
