Wada: XBL, PSN and WiiWare are the future
Devlopers must adopt a global approach
Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada has predicted that games retail will fall to the wayside and the future of gaming will concentrate on networks like Xbox Live and PlayStation Network.
Wada explained that online was the new battle ground for the games industry and was far more important than new technologies like Move and Kinect.
Wada said: "The key parts of the console technology are Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and WiiWare. The true battle among these things is taking place very quietly. We will see the results of that battle two or three years from now."
Wada also spoke of the importance of embracing a global attitude to games development, a philosophy reflected in Square Enix's acquisition of Eidos.
"We acquired Eidos. By doing this, we have incorporated them in our group. They have become part of our family. It was not like we acquired slaves," Wada explained."What I wanted to do is create an environment where completely different ethnic groups can co-exist in the same company. It is important that whats in America should be handled by Americans. The same goes in Europe and in Japan."
