Starbreeze: Licenses can foster creativity
They would know
The CEO of Starbreeze Studios, Johan Kristiansson, has been challenging the traditional logic that licensed titles limit creativity.
Of course, of all the studios to handle licenses, Starbreeze rank alongside Rare and Rocksteady as one of the few studios that can create decent games based on film licenses with the brilliant Chronicles of Riddick: Escape form Butcher Bay under their belts.
Kristiansson told GamesIndustry.biz: "It's important to understand that there are always boundaries for creative work whether you're working on your own IP or someone else's. Those boundaries are necessary in order for you to be creative AND productive."
He added: "I think that licensed IPs can prove to be very fertile ground for creative achievements."
Starbreeze are rumoured to be working on a reboot of Bullfrog's classic Syndicate series for Electronic Arts.
