Microsoft's Larry Hryb, otherwise known as Major Nelson, has announced the details of the new USB storage support.

According to the head of programming for Live, the Xbox 360 will be updated to support two USB devices of up to 16GB, allowing players to add a potential 32GB of storage.

Hryb also added: "Since performance on flash based USB storage is usually better, I highly recommend using flash based instead of spinning media like a hard drive...it's just going to give you a MUCH better experience."

Obviously the limit on the size of storage devices which can be attached is so that they don't render the new 250GB HDD SKU redundant straight away.

Microsoft are also partnering with SanDisk, ubiquitous purveyors of Flash memory devices, to provide an Xbox 360 branded flash drive.
