Fifth birthday a sad one for PSP
Go ahead, cry if you want to
Five years ago to the day, Sony released PSP to a handheld hungry US. What was initially a wild success has slowly degraded due to numerous missteps, putting PSP at the back of the portable pack.
Sony has much to be proud of on the fifth anniversary of the PSP launch, though it has just has much to reflect on considering the handheld's recent troubles in the US.
Sales have slowed to alarming rates and game releases have been reduced to an underwhelming trickle. Nintendo DS continues to dominate with sheer numbers, while iPhone and iPod touch succeeds in stealing away sales from both systems with nearly 9% of PSP games sales nabbed by Apple devices.
Clearly, more must be done to save the fortunes of PSP than just trumpeting its conception.
