Pachter: PC gaming in decline
Insert foot in mouth
Analyst Michael Pachter has been firing off a few inflammatory comments, this time aimed at the PC market.
Speaking in his regular segment on GameTrailers TV, Pach-Attack, he slammed the PC games market saying it was in decline and that the current generation of consoles out-muscle most PCs out there.
Pachter said: "The PC Market if you think about it as packaged products sold - not subscriptions like World of Warcraft - it's only like 6 or 7 per cent of total game sales. It's becoming a declining industry because you can get a near PC experience on a console."
He added: "The PS3 is a pretty powerful box, and it is probably more powerful than 90 per cent of PC's out there. The 360 is probably more powerful than 85 per cent of PC's out there."
Unless Pachter has access to the sales figures for Steam then his claim that the PC games market is in decline may be a tad premature. We should wait and see what happens this year when some download platform holders begin to submit their sales figures to Gfk ChartTrack the people behind (the UK charts) to see if Pachter is right or just full of hot air.
