New Splinter Cell uses Ubi's dreaded DRM
Ubi's new anti-pircay tool claims another victim
Sam Fisher is the latest one of Ubisoft's heroes to be 'protected' by their brand new digital rights management system on PC.
The system has already drawn a large volume of criticism for its requirement of a constant connection to Ubisoft's servers to play, and the savegames being stored on the server rather than locally.
Splinter Cell: Conviction is the latest title to be confirmed as using the new system with Silent Hunter 5, Settlers VII and Assassin's Creed II all set to be protected by the same system.
Even before the system officially enters use it has proved sensitive due to internet connection issues. Ubisoft do say that if connection is lost for any reason games with flexible saves will autosave to allow players to return to their games with minimum loss.
Unfortunately for those that use checkpoint saves this will throw players back to the last checkpoint.
Assassin's Creed II will be the first release to feature the new DRM system when it releases later this month.
