A patent filed by with the US Patent and Trademark Office details a unique form of feedback in which the touchscreen vibrates to provide rumble felt through the stylus.

Broke My Controller scouted out the patent application, which explains how vibration of the screen can be sensed during gameplay when the stylus is applied to the screen.

"For example, in a case that the enemy character exists at a depth of a game screen, little damage is applied to the enemy character, and a weak vibration is applied to the game apparatus...the vibrations are transmitted to the fingers or hands of the player via the stick."

A successor to is expected to be announced within the next few months, which makes this feedback technology a likely feature in whatever handheld Nintendo is piecing together.
