Rotten sales for Resident Evil Wii
Light gun game light on sales
A huge increase in Capcom's annual profits weren't fuelled by Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, which continued the troubling trend of mature titles tanking on Wii.
Capcom saw a staggering jump in profits during 2009 - more than an 800% increase over the previous year. No thanks to the latest Resident Evil game, which sold an insubstantial number of copies. The Wii port of Okami was also singled out as having underwhelming sales.
Both games are just the latest in a line of Wii exclusives that have failed to gain Capcom any traction on the console. The only game bucking the trend is Monster Hunter Tri, which has witnessed phenomenal sales in Japan. US and European releases for the game are slated for April.
Interestingly enough, Resident Evil 5 on PS3 and Xbox 360 managed to sell well months after its release in early 2009.
