Games analyst has attacked the general standard of games on the platform, the exec noting that there is too much 'shovelware' on the format.

Pachter says that the of the Wii were driven by "cheap and novel" games in 2007 and 2008, however expectations have more recently been too high and there is a "lot of crap" on Nintendo's system.

"The housewives who thought Wii Fit looked like fun, the grandmas who thought that Wii Sports would be a fun thing to play with their grandkids, and the 20-somethings who only wanted to play or none of them people who you'd call 'gamers'," Pachter offers to Gamasutra.

"They are not buying much more software. They bought what they wanted and don't feel the need to buy more - nor are they aware of what other Wii games are out there. They're oblivious."

Pachter sees high quality third-party releases as the way forward for the Wii, if are to improve the console's image.
