Sony and Panasonic have unveiled bigger discs capable of cramming 33.4GB of data onto a single disc - nearly 10GB larger than the dual-layered discs currently available.

The two companies announced a roll out of the new higher capacity discs later this year, adding that it would require a update to and other Blu-ray players.

Of course, the first question on our mind is how this affects gaming. For PS3-exclusives, this might enable more high quality audio, larger levels, and perhaps even more expansive games.

Sony has long claimed advantage over due to the limits of DVD capacity at 9.4GB. There are also super rare 17GB double-sided, double-layer DVDs, but 360 does not support them.
