Half-Life 2 voted game of the decade
Still stands up to scrutiny to this day
The results of a recent reader poll from the Guardian has announced the game of the decade and it is none other than Half-Life 2. Thats right, despite being released over 5 years ago the game still stands up as a testament to the industry.
As detailed in their article, the Guardian cited many reasons for HL2 to hold on to the title. Most of which revolve around its contributions to advancing the FPS genre and, within that, the use of in-depth story telling. Heres a tidbit of what they had to say:
"Half Life 2 always felt like the European arthouse answer to the Hollywood bluster of Halo and Call of Duty. Yes, there is all the visceral combat you would expect from a first-person shooter but Half-Life 2 interspersed this with slower-paced narrative sections that allowed you to breathe and take stock of your surroundings."
Coming in just behind Half-Life 2 were some other fantastic titles such as: World of Warcraft, Fallout 3, Portal and GTA: San Andreas.
