Outspoken Australian Attorney General Michael Atkinson has rounded on "very zealous gamers" who are trying to getting a top, '18+' age rating approved down under in order that mature video games can be released in the country.

Speaking on ABC News, Atkinson accused these zealots of trying to "impose their will" on society, after a backlash surrounding the banning of Aliens vs. Predator.

"It's the public interest versus the small vested interest. I accept that 98%, 99% of gamers will tell the difference between fantasy and reality, but the 1% to 2% could go on to be motivated by these games to commit horrible acts of violence," Atkinson railed.

"You don't need to be playing a game in which you impale, decapitate and dismember people."

Interactive Games and Entertainment Association CEO Ron Curry hit back, stating that Atkinson's view didn't seem very "democratic". Thanks GamePolitics.
