PSN will get subscription service in the future
Hirai explains 'premium' plans
While Xbox Live may come with a subscription fee, Sony's PSN service has remained admirably free, although this could change to some extent in the future.
Responding to a leaked a slide that hints at a paid-for subscription model in the future (thanks VG247), Sony Computer Entertainment Europe have unleashed a quote from boss Kaz Hirai.
Apparently, the current level of PSN service is going to remain free, but there will be a subscription package offered in the future that will deliver premium content and other services.
"SCE will further increase sales by offering users new entertainment through the combination of hardware, software, peripheral and PlayStation Network," the PlayStation boss explains.
"Especially in the online area, we are studying the possibility of introducing a subscription model, offering premium content and services, in addition to the current free services."
