Mario is an icon, and his appeal clearly transcends all boundaries of the, well, sensible.

Word in today has it that Spain's largest plumbing organisation, the ASEFOSAM, has made Nintendo's platforming star an honorary member.

The trade group believe Mario's positive image gives plumbers a good name, and boosts the esteem of the profession in the eyes of the general public.

Wether Luigi is also honoured in this way is unclear, but we're certainly impressed. Thanks GoNintendo.
