Hot off news that EA's Medal of Honor series is primed for a comeback, MCV reports that the new instalment will ditch the World War II setting in favour of the present day.

The site's unnamed source claims, "it's a new take on the modern warfare idea - and will really help give the series the kick up the arse it needs." After the lukewarm debut of Medal of Honor: Airborne versus the rabid reception of 2, it's not surprising that EA would opt to take the series in a new, potentially better-selling direction.

An official announcement is expected before year's end, with a PS3, 360, and release tentatively slated for March 2010. We'll keep you posted.
