Interplay face Bethesda lawsuit over Fallout MMO
New legal challenge to suffering firm's contract
Bethesda have announced a fresh legal challenge against troubled US publisher Interplay, alleging that the firm has broken an agreement struck over the development of a Fallout MMO.
Bethesda bought the rights to the RPG series from Interplay and then licensed back the right to create an online title based on the IP, but this was on the condition that the publisher started work by April 4th 2009. Bethesda contend that this did not happen.
Interplay believe they still hold the rights to create what they're calling Project V13 with Masthead Studios, but Bethesda dispute this, questioning the publisher's ability to fund the project.
This isn't the first legal challenge linked to this deal, with Interplay a shell of it's former-self, following the fire-sale of assets including game IPs.
More on this wrangling can be had on The Vault.
