Chatting with site Gamespot, brand manager Ken Balough has let slip that a brand new game will be unleashed in 2010.

Tantalisingly titled Project Needlemouse at present, the game will feature 2D gameplay, but will lavish high-definition visuals - which presumably points to an and release.

As noted, the game is set for release next year, and Balough says the team are looking to appease "old-school" fans with this 2D release, who "have long asked to see Sonic return to a more 2D style of gameplay."

The game is built from the ground up, we hear, and speed will play a key role in the new title. We're hoping for more details very soon.
