Microsoft pulled price cut announcement?
Running down stock, or spooked by PS3 slim
Speculation ahead of GamesCom this year was that we would see price cuts from both Microsoft and Sony for their Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms respectively. However whilst the Japanese giant has announced the significant price drop to 249GBP and shown off the PS3 Slim, Microsoft has been quiet on any changes.
If the re-pricing had occurred it would have probably been announced at the Microsoft press conference yesterday, but it wasn't forthcoming. The gig consisted of Molyneux showing off just one new title - Fable 3. Whilst this is big and very welcome news, the conference as a whole felt very much lacking in content with bemused journos left sat in their seats asking if they had finished already.
Setup for an announcement also was the slightly strange price increase on the Xbox 360 Arcade SKU. This would suggest that MS are planning to introduce another box for the retailer's shelves... perhaps a more budget offering?
So, we're left with speculation from UK electronic retailers suggesting that Microsoft are running down stock levels before revealing their Christmas hand, which makes sense.
More from GamesCom all today and tomorrow.
