According to the latest number crunching from Sony's first-quarter earnings report (ouch), nearly half of the people who have purchased a are now signed up as members of the PlayStation Network.

"I think it's running on track, and we are expecting really great things this year from it," financial officer chap Robert Wiesenthal was quoted by Kotaku as revealing.

Sony have sold about 23 million PS3 systems to-date, putting the user figure in the region of 11 million.

The console maker measures sign-ups in terms of individual account numbers, rather than the subscriber figures often quoted by Microsoft, leading some to question what the true number of PS3s is. Still, 11 million accounts hardly sounds bad.
