Carmack: Rage is quicker on 360 than PS3
A lot quicker, at the moment
John Carmack gives a quick lesson in how to unleash fanboy hell this morning, telling the world that id Software's action-racer Rage runs a lot faster on the Xbox 360 than on the PS3.
According to CVG, the id Software supremo tells us that the game will run at a silky-smooth 60 frames per second on Microsoft's console, versus a comparatively jerky 20 to 30 frames per second on Sony's console.
The game uses id's advanced new Tech 5 game engine, and Sony will hoping that this isn't indicative of the kind performance other games using the middleware will deliver to the PS3.
"The PS3 lags a little bit behind in terms of getting the performance out of it. The rasteriser is just a little bit slower - no two ways about that," the big cheese offered to Edge.
"The RSX is slower than what we have in the 360. The CPU is about the same, but the 360 makes it easier to split things off, and that's what a lot of the work has been, splitting it all into jobs on the PS3."
It isn't clear at this stage whether things are likely to improve prior to release.
