Mark Rein, boss-man at Games, isn't part of the camp clamouring for a price cut, despite the impact this would have on system sales. Instead, he believes the lack of a cut has saved Sony's bacon.

Had the platform holder lowered the price of their console, Rein believes the firm might have endured an even worse year and lost even more money.

"The truth is has had a difficult year and I think they had to do what they had to do to try to be profitable. They have their own financial to solve and lowering the price of the console would probably have made their situation worse," Rein told Eurogamer.

"They will get around to it in their own good time. If you're willing to look at this as a long-term play, they're going to be just fine."

The big cheese also tells us that he expects the current generation of systems to stick around for some time, the PS3 and extending their lifespans via new devices.
