Games embrace graphic novels
Activision join the comic bandwagon
It must be something in the air (presumably linked to Comic Con) but this week has seen games go all-out in embracing the graphic novel form. First there was Dante's Inferno, then there was Disney's Prince of Persia - and now we learn of two new IPs going paper-based.
The first up is another EA offering, Mass Effect, the publisher confirming that BioWare will collabourate with Dark Horse to create a comic book series called Mass Effect: Redemption.
Commander Shepard has disappeared in this four-part mini-series, and adventure is about to ensue; writer Marc Walters behind the story, with Omar Francia delivering artwork.
The series will kick off in January of 2010. But wait, there's more! Activision are also dipping their toes into the world of the graphic novel, partnering with Image Publishing to create a Singularity book.
A single issue graphic novel will follow the game's release in early 2010, with a team of veteran artists and writers set to deliver this new IP to the printed-page.
More on all this as we get it.
