UK game prices set to rise?
Activision ahead of the trend, potentially
Inflation, deflation, dilution, the mores of the financial world mean little to the seasoned games player. But what if UK game prices were set to rise? Ouch indeed.
According to word from Eurogamer.net this morning, Activision are already in the process of bumping up their UK RRPs, Modern Warfare 2 up to 54.99 GBP from 49.99 GBP. It seems as if other firms could be set to follow this lead.
THQ and Ubisoft haven't commented, but mercifully EA did deny plans to increase prices at this point.
Why is this happening? Well, owing to the ongoing global recession the value of the UK's currency has fallen sharply by as much as 25 percent in the last nine months or so. This has already prompted Nintendo to start charging retailers more for the Wii console.
Could the games themselves be next for an increase?
