A press release has set 15th August as the official release date for Bookworm Adventures 2, unless you want to purchase it direct from their website in which case it will be "available beginning July 30 exclusively on PopCap.com".

The price for those desperate to get their hands on it as soon as possible will be 19.95 USD, which could represent something of a bargain if the clever people at PopCap have produced a game anywhere near as addictive as the original.

The central idea remains the same in the sequel; you'll still be playing as Lex the bookworm and still be forming words from an ever changing selection of letter tiles with the help of various potions and treasure. However, Bookworm Adventures 2 is set to feature three brand spanking new "literary landscapes" as well as a whole truck load of other new features to get excited about.

Key amongst the new features will be the new "rainbow tiles" as well as twenty extra treasures and a selection of new literary characters including the likes of Mother Goose and the Cheshire Cat. There'll also be three new mini-games called "Mutant Words", "Golden Coins" and "Word Up" to keep you busy.

To finish off the list of new things there's 130 new enemies, an infinite-replay mode, an arena mode where speedy spelling is the key to defeating your foe and Achievements to unlock. Phew.
