Sony will cut PS3 price by October 1st says Pachter
But only if US sales remain low
Analyst Michael Pachter has predicted that Sony will cut the price of PlayStation 3 before October 1st if US sales continue to slump.
Pachter estimated that US Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 sales will show a year-on-year decline of 43 percent for June, as detailed in today's note.
"We think that the console manufacturers will therefore be forced to consider a price cut before year-end, with Sony cutting the PS3's price by October 1," he said.
Pachter goes on to predict that both Sony and Microsoft will trim USD 50 from the price of their consoles and that Nintendo will also have to cut their prices if they're to achieve their sales forecasts.
He also expects Sony to make up their shortfall in sales with a timely software bundle.
Pachter expects sales of 350,000 Wii, 225,000 Xbox 360 and 165,000 PS3 consoles in June, ahead of the June NPD which releases this coming Thursday.
