The intention is for the centre to offer training in programming, art and technology alongside testing facilities, work placement opportunities, business advice and high speed links to Salford's MediCity.

With existing companies like and Computer Entertainment Studio Liverpool already in residence in the city the council see the new Academy as the natural next step says Liberal Democrat councillor Gary Millar.

The city region is the UKs leading games developer catalyst and we need to capitalise on that. The Games Academy has every chance of catching the imagination of the next generation of gamers and workers, and inspiring people to up-skill and get involved. It would also provide the employers with a hub for well- trained potential new employees with which they can grow their businesses.
