Music games could leave consoles behind
Harmonix peer into the future
Music games could be run directly from their respective peripherals in the future, negating the need for consoles; that's the speculation of Harmonix exec Josh Randall.
Speaking to Videogamer the music-game veteran suggests that hardware limitations could be constraining the genre, but this could be removed with changes in the way music games are delivered.
"I think you could foresee a future where maybe you don't even have a console," Randall mused.
"Your instrument can have all these songs and you just plug it into your TV. I'm sure it [the genre] is going to start to move in weird ways that no-one's even thought of yet."
He added that mobile phones could be another future growth area, although he declined to comment on his studio's own ambitions.
