Bleszinski says shooters and RPGs to merge
Epic man sees genres combining
Gears of War wizard Cliff Bleszinski has said that in the future shooters and RPGs are likely to move closer together, the genres taking on the traits of each other as game's evolve.
The Epic game designer was speaking to Develop about the direction of things, and he's clearly been giving the matter some thought.
"I had a conversation with Harvey Smith - one of the lead designers on Deus Ex - and said to him the future of shooters is RPGs. He said he completely agreed. There was a time when the industry warmed down, and then BioShock came along."
Bleszinski was also asked about whether future Gears of War games might make use of such traits in the future: "It depends on where things go. I mean, one could wean that from the comments I made earlier about the future of shooters is RPGs and see where things are going with us."
More soon.
