GameStop don't worry about online distribution
Future of digital releases still uncertain
US games retail giant GameStop have told analyst Arvind Bhatia of Sterne Agee that there will be no real market for online-distributed games until 2014.
Speaking to Gamasutra, the analyst says that he was told the retailer had conducted a thorough study and that there won't be an "addressable market" until this point.
Even by 2014, the retailer believes only 25 percent of consumers will have access to the right technology to embrace digital releases, and that at this point it could cost as much as 100 USD per month just to get involved.
Apparently, the costs are still rather too high, with most consumers balking at prices beyond 39 USD per month, making publisher think twice about the viability of the model. More as we get it.
