Champions Online not chasing Warcraft
Cryptic believe MMO can sit alongside Blizzard hit
The MMO genre is fraught with intense competition, with many challengers falling by the wayside in the face of the dominant World of Warcraft. Cryptic's Champions Online, however, will not force players to choose - the game offering a different experience to Blizzard's fantasy epic.
"We're doing different kinds of games to standard fantasy fare. Champions Online is a superhero game, and it's a lot different to a World of Warcraft or Everquest because you don't need to invest twenty to thirty hours a week in Champions to really succeed in the game," Cryptic boss John Needham tells CO Daily News.
"When you look at games like Conan and Warhammer, they were directly competitive to World of Warcraft and they forced players to make a choice. Am I going to subscribe to Conan or am I going to subscribe to World of Warcraft?"
Cryptic's title, however, will sit alongside this game - and offers a very different experience, the CEO assures. More soon.
